ALICE TRESCARTE IS A FRENCH CERAMIST BORN IN 1991 IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE. SHE BEGAN WORKING WITH CERAMICS IN 2016 AND APPROCHED THIS FIELD AS A PLACE FOR BOTH MATERIAL AND TECHNICAL EXPLORATION. HER INFLUENCES OSCILLATE BETWEEN THE FORMAL LANGUAGE OF DECORATIVE ARTS AND MORE BRUTALIST, PRIMITIVE FORMS OF EXPRESSION. SHE SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLORE THE MATERIALITY OF THE MEDIUM, SHAPING EXPRESSIV ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURES—SOMEWHERE BETWEEN TOTEMS AND GOLEMS—THAT, ONCE FIRED, TAKE ON THE APPEARANCE OF STONE.
SHE EVOKES THE RUIN-LIKE CHAOS AND GRANITE RIVERBEDS OF THE CÉVENNES, THE REGION SHE COMES FROM. IT IS FROM THIS LANDSCAPE THAT SHE NOW SOURCES THE SCHIST STONE USED IN MOST OF HER ASH GLAZES, CONTRIBUTING TO THE MINERAL QUALITY OF HER WORK.
